Clear Lens Exchange (CLE)
Serving Oklahoma City, Norman, Edmond & nearby areas of Oklahoma
Clear lens exchange, also referred to as refractive lens exchange or lens implants, is recommended for patients with thin corneas or dry eyes. Clear Lens Exchange (CLE) is a surgical procedure for vision correction and entails removing the eyes natural lens and replacing it with an intraocular lens (IOL).
The CLE procedure is similar to that of cataract surgery but with multiple benefits. The artificial lens not only corrects the existing conditions of nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), presbyopia and astigmatism, but it also eliminates any future development of cataracts in the crystalline lens.
Is CLE Right for Me?
CLE is a more invasive procedure than LASIK since it involves the removal of the eyes lens. If you are not a candidate for LASIK and require vision correction, CLE may be a good option for you if the following qualifications are met:
- No history of prior ophthalmic procedures
- No history of eye diseases such as iritis, diabetic retinopathy, or glaucoma
- Over the age of 40
During your initial consultation, one of our experienced Oklahoma City ophthalmologists will conduct a full evaluation and go over medical history to better determine candidacy for the procedure.
What Are the Benefits of CLE?
Lens exchange serves multiple purposes in vision correction and prevention of cataracts. The surgery is a simple outpatient procedure that provides immediate improvement in a quick and effective manner. Added benefits of the procedure are:
- Fast recovery
- Exceptional quality of vision
- No future development of cataracts
- Correction of multiple vision issues in one procedure
When it comes to choosing an intraocular lens implant there are a variety of options. The best way to determine which IOL is best suited for you is to directly
consult with one of our doctors.
