Questions About BOTOX®

In Oklahoma City and Edmond, Oklahoma

What is BOTOX® used for?

In the past, BOTOX® was used to treat various physiological and nervous disorders, but today the experienced doctors at Hummel Eye Associates in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma use BOTOX® to treat the lines and wrinkles that develop around the face as you grow older. As you age, the repetitive movements of many of the small muscles around your eyes and brow cause lines and wrinkles to develop; BOTOX® can help smooth these lines.

Oklahoma BotoxHow does BOTOX® work?

The cause of many wrinkles on the face around the eyes and nose are a result of repetitive muscle movements forcing the skin to wrinkle in the same place over and over again. BOTOX® uses a strain of Botulinum Toxin Type A to inhibit very small portions of muscles in the face from receiving the nerve signals telling them to move. Wrinkles and creases are diminished because the muscles are no longer causing the wrinkles to form.

Are there any BOTOX® side effects?

Since BOTOX® is not a permanent cosmetic surgery procedure, any effects you see from the BOTOX® injection will be temporary. The most common side effects following a BOTOX® injection are bruising around the injection site, swelling, and numbness.

Am I a BOTOX® candidate?

Nearly any person who is unsatisfied with the appearance of wrinkles along their brow and eyes is a BOTOX® candidate. The best way to determine if you are a good BOTOX® candidate is to schedule an initial consultation with an experienced doctor at our eye care practice. During your initial consultation we will review what you want to accomplish with BOTOX® and see if another cosmetic procedure like Juvederm™, Eyelid Surgery, or Restylane is better suited for you.

How will my BOTOX® procedure be performed?

BOTOX® is an incredibly simple procedure that can be performed in less than an hour. During your BOTOX® appointment, our doctor will use a very small needle to inject minute amounts of BOTOX® into the muscle fibers causing your wrinkles and lines. For most people, discomfort during the procedure is minimal and there is no need for anesthetic.

BOTOX® can help you regain the smooth, firm skin you had in the past, and will help you appear years younger. To learn more about this popular cosmetic procedure, please contact our experienced Oklahoma City cosmetic surgeon Dr. Deena Sylvester to schedule your initial consultation.
