Cosmetic Eye Surgeries
Serving Oklahoma City, Norman, Edmond & nearby areas of Oklahoma
For some people, glasses can serve as a mask. With your glasses on, you feel people are less likely to notice your drooping eyelids, the dark bags under your eyes, or the crow's feet and fine wrinkles around your eyes. Fortunately, though, Hummel Eye Associates in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, offers many cosmetic procedures, so that, no matter what cosmetic issues you face, you can have them resolved before you have your LASIK performed, making it easy for you to cast aside your glasses forever.
Sagging or Puffy Eyelids
If you've developed low-hanging upper eyelids or puffy lower lids, you may appear perpetually tired or angry, and you may look much older than your age or than you'd like. This condition can often be resolved with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). During a blepharoplasty surgery, excess skin, muscle, and fat may be removed from the eyelids. In addition, fat from the puffy lower lids may be repositioned to fill in the dark hollows below the eye.
Hollows under the Eyes
If you have hollows under your eyes that are too large to be remedied with the repositioning of fat from the lower lids, or if you do not have fat deposits in your lower lids, you can have these hollows filled with the use of Restylane, a facial filler derived from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural hydrator found in the skin, joints, eyes, and elsewhere in the body. It has almost no side effects, and its only major drawback is that it is absorbed by the body and therefore retreatments are usually necessary to maintain your appearance.
Crow's feet, like many other facial wrinkles, can be treated with the use of Botox. Crow's feet are the result of muscles around the eyes being conditioned as a result of repeated contraction. Botox treats them by blocking the contraction cues sent by the nerves. This allows the muscles to relax, smoothing the wrinkles. Botox can also be used to treat wrinkles in the forehead area.
Do Cosmetic Surgery and LASIK Interfere with each Other?
Cosmetic procedures and LASIK are completely compatible with one another. As these cosmetic procedures do not interfere with your eyes or your vision, they do not interfere with your LASIK procedure and vice versa. The only complication in common between the procedures is the possibility of infection.
The LASIK flap takes a long time to completely reintegrate into the cornea, so it is best to avoid situations that might lead to accidental repositioning of the flap. For this reason, if you are considering both forms of treatment, it is advisable that you have your blepharoplasty performed before LASIK, although the risks of repositioning during blepharoplasty are very small.
