Restylane® is an injectable filler which can smooth fine lines and restore your skin’s youthful fullness. Dr. Deena Sylvester at Hummel Eye Associates in Oklahoma City offers Restylane treatments, which take about half an hour, helping you look your best while you see your best.

Restylane is a clear gel which is injected into the skin in very tiny amounts. It is a non-animal, biodegradable filler containing hyaluronic acid. There is no need for allergy testing before the procedure, because hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the human body. Restylane was approved by the FDA in 2003.

Restylane is great for treatment around the eyes because it is smooth and non-clumping. It can improve the appearance of:

• Crow’s feet
• Fine lines
• Deep furrows
• Frown lines

How does Restylane work?
It is injected under the skin, lifting, plumping, and smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines. The water in the hyaluronic acid stays connected to the skin and attracts more water to the area. This maintains a volume beneath the skin that plumps out the whole area.

The treatment
Restylane treatments take up to about thirty minutes. A topical numbing cream and perhaps also a local anesthetic are used to minimize discomfort.

The results
You will see an immediate improvement in wrinkles and fine lines after your treatment. You may experience slight redness and swelling which will disappear in a few days. Full results will be clear in about a week. Restylane has beautiful results when used alone, or it can be used in combination with Botox for more dramatic results.

You should avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area during the first 48 hours after treatment and avoid extreme heat (such as hot tubs and sunbathing) and cold until any redness and swelling are gone. The results of Restylane last about six months and you can maintain your look with follow up treatments.
